Match Report by Rory
It was a pleasant Autumn afternoon and the Sharks had a positive attitude after beating Walton not too long ago. This atmosphere seemed to foreshadow a successful result.
The game kicked off and the Sharks instantly created pressure on Walton by quickly closing down and preventing them from developing any fluency in their play. With the blues dominating the game it seemed only a matter of time before we would open the scoring. When the first goal came it was a solo effort from Francis who dispossessed the opposition in the middle of their half, ran in on goal and placed the ball beyond the Walton keeper. Shortly after that a cross from the far post found its way though the box to Sylvester who luckily scuffed it in with a jammy toe punt (I’m joking — it was a sublime half volley). Sharks continued to dominate the first half until unfortunate confusion at the back presented Walton with a shooting opportunity. Jayden made a great save only for an unmarked Walton striker to tap in a rebound.
Sharks began the second half determined to knock Walton out of the game and Francis clearly had this in mind as once again he battled through the opposition’s defence and scored whilst under pressure. Almost instantly after, Gabby threaded a neat pass through and Francis completed a wonderful hat trick with a clean finish into the far corner. Of course, three wasn’t enough and when Francis was put in on goal by a sharp through ball from Ben another well taken finish extended the scoreline further. Sharks continued to dominate the game, Francis near to scoring again from a one on one, Joel’s long shot skimming over the crossbar and Rory’s rather incredible knee flick that so nearly lobbed the helpless keeper just missing by millimetres. Walton ended the game scoring a great strike from distance, but it was only a consolation goal. The game ended 5-2 after another fantastic performance from the Sharks.
