Match Report by Charlie F

This week, we were playing our local rivals Twickenham Tigers. The Tigers were bottom of the league, having lost all their games, including a 5-2 loss to us earlier on this season. However the Tigers had recently only lost 3-1 to Old Isleworth, who we lost to 5-1.

Straight away from kick off we attacked and began to pressure the Tigers’ defence. They were playing very defensively but hit us on the counter and found themselves 1-0 up. It was not long, however, before we equalised. Francis sprinted past a defender and into the box, and was tripped. The referee pointed to the spot and Gabby excellently placed the ball in the bottom left hand corner.

After the goal, we continued to attack, and were probably unlucky not to score once or twice. We were dominating the game, with the Tigers not having any clear chances, however just before half time, a through ball cut open the defence and after a cross into the box, it was 2-1.

We came back on at half time, knowing that we could still easily come out of the game with the 3 points. Francis was slipped through and after holding off the defender, slid the ball into the far corner to put us back level. Seconds later, a controversial free-kick was awarded for handball against Joel. They looped a hopeful ball into the box, and after a goalmouth scramble, the ball was poked in from close range.

The Sharks continued to attack and another penalty was awarded, this time for handball. Enrico bravely stepped up, but unfortunately his shot flew narrowly wide of the post. Despite our best efforts, we couldn’t break down their defence. They resorted to taking it towards the corner flag near the end, and the referee blew the final whistle, much to our disappointment.
