Match report by Charlie F

For the second time in two weeks we were up against Corinthian Casuals. Last week we played away and won 1-0 against their 10 men. We felt that we could beat them even though this week they had 11.

We started the game brightly but could not find a goal, although Ben had an effort cleared off the line. Corinthians came back into the game but the defence stood strong with some help from Josh and Phin. Midway through the first half, a Corinthians corner was cleared by Joel, straight to Francis. Francis sprinted past 2 or 3 helpless defenders, before lifting the ball over the keeper to put us 1-0 up. We then put on more pressure but we couldn’t make it 2-0. Nile had a left-footed shot which cannoned back off the post, much to our disappointment.

The start of the second half was similar to the end of the first with neither team being too dominant in possession and neither keeper being troubled. However the Sharks made it 2-0 when Francis chased a ball down in the area, before tackling the opposition centre back and playing the ball across the face of goal for Nile to poke into the bottom corner. Corinthians didn’t pressure us in the closing stages of the match and we retained possession well enough to close the game out and win 2-0.
