Match report by Vincent

The match was dominated by a difficult surface, covered in thick and unbearable mud. This became a struggle for both teams but we fought on.

We started slowly trying to exchange intricate passes but the first 15 minutes consisted of plays in the middle of the park with a significant struggle. Our defence stood strong with James and Rory marking very well and tackling their opposition with ease, while Charlie and Martin surpassed the wingers by not allowing them to pass through. The main chance was Martin’s free-kick which was struck right at the keeper, and a few delicate and weak shots right to the keeper’s hands. However a lead was achieved when Josh threaded a pin-point ball to Francis who placed the ball bottom left corner, 1-0. Or so we thought … It was controversially ruled out for offside.

The rest of the half was played with a bit more certainty as Ali and Josh battled strongly in midfield and Ben managed a few successful dribbles passed many defenders. The half finished with a lucky chance where Francis capitalised on the keepers fumble but it was cleared off the line by their centre-back.

The second half commenced very brightly as our whole team played with more confidence. Early on, Vincent sliced open the defence with a through ball to Francis who just missed as the keeper made a brave save. After Josh swiped passed a player with a clever touch his shot went just narrowly wide. Will we score? This frustration continued when Gabby crossed a perfect ball to Ben who tapped the ball neatly against the post. How unlucky?

We kept on attacking and tested the keeper more frequently with Charlie having a few optimistic long shots. The defence held firm and our captain proceeded to decide the outcome of the match. The ball flew out to the right and Ali passed it to Martin who sprinted forward. Martin attempted to cross the ball to Vincent but instead it went a little out of target; not that it mattered much to us. The ball glided through the air and over the keeper. GOAL!

For the last 5 minutes we maintained the lead and in the dying moments of stoppage time Jayden produced a mesmerising save to win us the game and achieve our first clean sheet of the season. Great game lads
