Match Report by Gabriel
After a disappointing loss to Hanworth Sports the previous week, the Sharks were looking to make up for it with a victory, however the fixture against Ashtead Colts was unlikely to be a walkover, since Ashtead were sitting at the top of the table 10 points above second place. The game started with both teams having equal chances, most noticeably for the Sharks with Francis having a couple of one on ones with their keeper, however Ashtead were able to keep the score tied until they went a goal up from a shot inside the box. Soon after, Ashtead went 2 goals up but the persistent combination of Jayden and our defence were able to prevent any more goals from being conceded prior to the half time whistle. The second half started promisingly in spite of the two goal deficit for the Sharks as we were able to initiate a few counter attacks and take more shots at goal, but the attacks were to no avail as the oppositions throw and cross led to their third goal, from their striker’s header. Throughout the game, we were able to develop our passing game and easily progress into their half however we were lacking accuracy in crosses and shots. Ashtead were able to clinch one last goal in the remaining 10 minutes to leave the final score as 4-0 to them. Ultimately, the Sharks certainly did not succumb to the impressive win record that Ashtead had accomplished, as our performance did cause a few upsets in their defence. Nonetheless, they triumphed by winning by 4 goals therefore their win was well deserved. The Sharks head to Corinthian Casuals this weekend in hope of climbing further up the table from our current 4th position.
