There was something spooky going on this Halloween, as the Sharks recorded another 7-3 victory over the opponents they beat 7-3 in their last match.

But there was nothing horrible about the performance. It was another fine victory with some breathtaking football from the boys in blue. The opposition coach was impressed and complimented the boys on the quality of their passing football.

It really is great to see them move the ball so comfortably and so assuredly.  At one point yesterday, in a sweeping move that went the length of the pitch, we moved the ball from our own corner flag, on the floor, to end in a shot inches wide of the opposition post.

Everyone is showing great technique and confidence to pass even in tight situations. And some of the forward play is so fast and skilful it’s delightful to watch.

As usual, the defence were superb all game with Alejandro, Phin and Martin starting the match in their usual positions and weathering some early Manorcroft pressure.  Rory held onto the ball very well on a number of occasions in slippery conditions.

The Sharks soon found their feet and were 1-0 up after a great move ended in Jakub scoring his first of the season.  Special mention should go to Jakub this week, who played in almost every position on the pitch – striker, goalkeeper, right back and centre back.  Fittingly, Jakub also finished off the Sharks’ scoring, getting our 7th goal with a great looping shot from the edge of the box.

Wiktor scored another great header from one of Martin’s superbly delivered corners and Ben managed to get 4 goals on what is quickly becoming his favourite ground.

We made lots of positional changes during the second half, with Rory getting his first outing on the pitch in defence as Jakub and then Martin went in goal.

Phin excelled in defence and in a spell at left midfield – showing great skill to beat players and surge forward.  Martin was excellent again at right back – showing great commitment to get back when needed, tackling well and linking up with attack.  His corners and thrown ins were brilliant again.

Of course, Alejandro was magnificent as usual. Strong, quick and organized, he dealt with almost everything Manorcroft could throw at him, and distributed the ball beautifully.

Wiktor was industrious and creative in the midfield and as a striker and the interplay between all the forwards was superb. Francis was fast, skilful and effective on the right of midfield – but we really must get him some shooting boots for Christmas! He could have had 6 goals if he’d taken his chances! But as they say, he’s getting into the right positions to get the chances in the first place.

If there’s any criticism for the Sharks, it’s perhaps that (like Arsenal) we sometimes try to walk the ball into the net.  A bit more ruthlessness in front of goal and we could have scored 15 easily. Still, it’s a minor quibble when we’re playing so well and looking so good.  Well done again boys.

Back to the league next week with a home game against the team in third place, just one point behind us.
