A terrific win for the Sharks yesterday in a friendly against Manorcroft Utd Pumas.  Both teams played good passing football (which was great to see) and the Sharks were really outstanding.

Despite going a goal down in the first few minutes, the boys struck back well to take control of the game and play some superb passing football.

Phin got his first goal of the season, with an excellent run and shot from the edge of the box to bring things level, before Wiktor crashed in a beauty after a well-taken corner from Martin.  Wiktor added his second and Sharks’ third a few minutes later and the boys were cruising.

The football was excellent and the work rate was phenomenal from all the boys.  The defence was rock solid as usual, with Phin and Martin handling the pressure at the back comfortably and getting forward with surging runs and good energy.  Alejandro was again magnificent at the centre of the defence – coming forward to good effect too with excellent communication and organization of the troops.  And he was desperately unlucky not to score from a late Martin corner, when the Pumas’ keeper  pulled off an incredible Gordon Banks style save to somehow keep out his goal-bound shot.

Gabriel alternated comfortably between striker and centre back with some style – and he helped set up a couple of the goals without getting on the score sheet himself.

Second half saw us pile on the pressure and create chance after chance with slick football and good running. Ben got a good hat trick, and Francis added the seventh, without further reply.

That was the end of normal time – but the Pumas wanted to give their full squad a run out and so we played on for a further 15 minutes.

The Sharks were tiring by then and Manorcroft added two goals to add to the one they’d scored in the first few minutes. Francis suffered a nasty (accidental) kick to the foot, which threatened to cast a bad shadow over a great morning – but after some ice pack treatment he was soon back on his feet and itching to get back into the action.

Rory was kept busy despite what the scoreline might suggest, but he pulled off some great saves, gathered the ball confidently and came out quickly off his line to claim the ball with authority when required.

Overall a great result and a fantastic performance from the Sharks – they really do look good when they’re on song.  This Manorcroft United side are currently sitting in third place in Division 1 (two leagues above us) and have not lost a game yet. This was largely their second string side, but even so it was a terrific result for the Sharks.

Enjoy a couple of weeks off over half term – before it’s back to business in the league on November 7th.
