Match report by Charlie B
A blustery day and a poor pitch meant that the Sharks needed to work harder to earn the 3 points that would make them top of the table following their brilliant run in the league.
As the match kicked off, Sharks realised that they needed to adapt their playing style to the conditions affecting both team’s play. With the wind in the Sharks favour, a goal was almost certain. However from the few chances created, neither sides could capitalise. A dull, miserable first half reminded Sharks that something needed to go their way to clinch the 3 points.
As the second half started, the sun emerged from behind the clouds but the there was no sign of the wind easing off. Hanworth took advantage of this, pinging balls either side of our defence. Fortunately, to no avail. With 7 minutes left, an inch-perfect pass into Francis from Vincent was calmly slotted bringing the Sharks up 1-0. With a match of few chances this was surely going to be the final result.
A couple of minutes later, brilliant interplay from the team led Joel passing the ball to Francis on the right hand side. An accurate right footed shot rebounded off the left goalpost before falling gently into the keeper’s hands. Chance upon chance fell to Sharks in the dying embers of the game but were unfortunately halted by unlucky decisions from the referee and linesman.
With only a matter of minutes left, Hanworth pushed up, putting pressure on Sharks. It eventually paid off with a high ball falling to their player in our box. A powerful volley forced Jayden to perform a magnificent save. As the ball fell, a strong gust of wind finished off the job putting the Sharks on equal terms with the final score 1-1.
An unlucky match put a stop to Sharks excellent run, but this should not stop them from their hopes of promotion. A good performance from everyone.
