A wonderful win for the Sharks – their best this season, with a hat-trick for Sebas and an incredible double hat-trick (6 goals) for Jakub.  Just 1-0 at half time, the second half was a blur of action as the Sharks played some beautiful attacking football and scored 10 great goals.

Kew Park Rangers had given us quite a scare back in October – taking the lead against us and holding out until well into the second half when the Sharks eventually secured a narrow 2-1 win.

So we were taking nothing for granted, despite our recent good form.

And the first half was hard work for the Sharks, as Kew defended stoutly and made life very difficult.  Attacking with the wind, Kew were using it to launch quick counter attacks, which forced our defenders to drop a little deeper than usual.

But they defended as brilliantly as usual.  Alejandro was superb – determined, strong, positionally perfect and intelligent in possession.  The opposition linesman said to me second half; “Your Captain is outstanding.”

Alongside him, Jake had a brilliant game at right back. He’s really found his feet now and is consistently putting in excellent performances – strong in the tackle and astute in his use of the ball.

At left back to start, Gabriel was also doing a fine job.  Gabby is quick and strong, and clever with the ball – and he’s such a versatile player, happily taking up most positions on the pitch.

Phin was playing the defensive midfield role with real aplomb – tackling well and covering for Alejandro when he got dragged wide.

Up front, Sebas, Francis, Nile and Jakub slowly started to exert control of the match.  Jakub, starting in the left wing role was showing glimpses of what we were to see in the second half – with excellent runs and crosses in to the area. Sebas was also making great runs into the area on the other side,  surging past defenders.

There were chances for Sebas, Jakub, Nile and Phin in the opening twenty minutes but Kew were strong in defence and managed to keep the Sharks out. Their keeper was very good – agile and alert and positioning himself well against crosses and shots.

At the other end, Rory was kept busy coming off his line as high balls were lofted into the wind and behind our defence.  But Rory is ever alert these days and he was quick to come and collect or clear the danger when called upon.

Just as the frustration was growing at the Sharks not being able to make their pressure count, they found the breakthrough.  Exchanging passes with Francis Sebas collected a delightful through ball on the edge of the area. Sprinting into the box, he kept his cool and slotted the ball past the diving keeper perfectly for the opening goal.

It had been tough to get that first goal, and that’s how it stayed until half time.  But the floodgates were to open spectacularly in the second half.

With the wind behind them, the Sharks were a tornado of attacking action in the second half – with slick move after slick move producing goal after goal.

Wiktor was on in the centre midfield role and was running the show delightfully – playing perfect through balls for the wingers.  Phin was snuffing out any danger in front of the back four, while the full backs – Martin and Jake – were surging forward and linking up brilliantly with the attackers.

It was difficult to keep track of all the goals – they just came so thick and fast.  Jakub scored his first after good work on the wing from Sebas, then forced an own goal as Jake played a clever throw in to Wiktor, who lofted a cross into the middle, where Jakub did enough to make the defender head into his own net.

Sebas scored his second from close range after good work from Phin and Gabriel.  Then Nile hit the post after a good turn on the penalty spot, Sebas hit the bar with the rebound – and Jakub was there to sidefoot the second rebound home.  He got his first hat-trick after neatly slotting home another loose ball following good work from Nile.

His second hat-trick followed in quick succession as he scored with three excellent first time shots from perfect crosses – from Alejandro, Wiktor and Francis.  Jakub was in exactly the right place every time as the crosses came in – a superb striking display.

It was then Sebas’s turn to complete a hat-trick as he collected the ball on the edge of the area and curled a beauty into the far corner.

There was still time for one more goal as the Sharks continued to push forward with purpose. Wiktor was again provider as he swapped passes with Phin and played a fantastic ball into the path of Francis, who hit it first time high into the net for a perfect finish.  A lovely goal to round off a magnificent display.

In truth there could have been more goals.  Almost everyone came close second half, with shots skewing inches wide or just over. Alejandro, Nile, Wiktor were all unlucky not to get onto the score sheet second half.

But 11-0 is a fabulous result – and does our goal difference no harm at all (although Oxshott won 14-0 on Sunday!).

Great stuff from the boys.  Well done Sharks – and well done Jakub!

Thanks to Andrzej for running the line this week.  And to Kasia for her fantastic pics.
